The ladies from the Hooked Together Charity Challenge have exceeded their goal and are now looking for people to help wrap their lapghans and wheelchair shawls to give out to every nursing home resident in Pontiac.

Kathy Rygh, one of the organizers of the challenge, said the group started back in June with the goal of 180 lapghans and are well over 200 at this point. The only thing left to do is wrap them, and the opportunity to do that will be this Saturday.

“We ended up having probably 35 women from all different churches, walks of life and age groups. The goal was to have a gift for every nursing home resident in Pontiac this year for Christmas. When I originally started this challenge, we had around 176 residents. I think we’re still pretty close to that number. As of today, our count was 207 (lapghans) and we still have some coming in. We had so much fun and we made so many new friends and people knew each other and we brought people together from the different churches and we just had a really good time and a lot of laughing,” Rygh said.

The wrap party, which is open to the public, begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Deerfield Road in Pontiac.
