High school girls basketball from Thursday…Dwight lost 53-46 at Gardner-South Wilmington and Eureka defeated Flanagan-Cornell-Woodland 48-35.

 

In boys high school hoops from Thursday, Clifton Central beat Tri-Point 71-69 in double overtime in the fifth place game at Watseka.

 

Illinois State men’s basketball cruised to a 71-45 win over host Hawaii in the opening round of the Diamond Head Classic. The Redbirds take on San Francisco at 9 Central tonight.

 

Other Missouri Valley Conference men’s wins went to Evansville, Southern Illinois and Wichita State. Missouri State lost 83-75 to Number 23 Southern California in the Las Vegas Classic. The UNI women’s defeated Number 24 Kansas State.

 

Illinois State women’s basketball concludes the non-conference schedule this afternoon with a 1:00 tip at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

 

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New York Giants 24-19 in the NFL Thursday night game. The Eagles victory gave the Cowboys the division title and the top seed for the NFC playoffs.

 

The Bulls visit Charlotte tonight.

 

The Blues lost at Tampa Bay 5-2.

 

Florida Panthers forward Jaromir Jagr is now second in all-time NHL points behind only Wayne Gretzky. The 44-year-old Jagr passed Mark Messier with an assist on Thursday night.
