Illinois State men’s basketball moved to 3-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play but needed extra time to do it with a 74-71 overtime win over Missouri State at Redbird Arena. MiKyle McIntosh led the Redbirds with 21 points, Deontae Hawkins contributed 20 points and Paris Lee registered his second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Birds improve to 11-4 while Missouri State falls to 11-5 and 2-1 in league play. Illinois State travels to Indiana State Saturday afternoon.
Upsets in men’s college basketball included Number 1 Villanova falling to Number 18 Butler 66-58. Number 23 Notre Dame beat Number 9 Louisville 77-70, Pittsburgh beat Number 11 Virginia 88-76 in overtime and North Carolina State hammered Number 21 Virginia Tech 104-78. Number 2 Baylor survived Iowa State 65-63.
The Bulls earned a 106-94 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
On the ice, the Blackhawks host the Buffalo Sabres tonight while the Blues host the Carolina Hurricanes.
