In high school girls basketball from Thursday, Dwight won at Momence 52-32 behind 16 points and 9 rebounds from Lucy Rieke. Central Catholic topped Pontiac 61-34. Flanagan-Cornell-Woodland earned a 53-28 win over Lexington, Fieldcrest beat LeRoy 57-19, Eureka topped El Paso-Gridley 59-42 and Beecher bested Tri-Point 58-43.
Boys basketball tonight features Pontiac at IVC, Prairie Central at Tri-Valley, Blue Ridge at Flanagan-Cornell, Fieldcrest at LeRoy, Eureka at EPG, Woodland travels to Putnam County and Dwight visits Clifton Central.
Fighting Illini men’s basketball visits Indiana for a 4 p.m. tip on Saturday. It’s on WJEZ 98.9 at 3:00.
Illinois State women’s basketball begins its first conference road trip tonight in Chicago with a 7 o’clock tip at Loyola. The Illinois State men are at Indiana State tomorrow afternoon and the Illinois State women follow suit in Terre Haute Sunday afternoon.
U-High grad Keita Bates-Diop is out for the rest of the season at Ohio State to have surgery for a stress fracture in his left leg. Buckeyes coach Thad Matta hopes to redshirt the junior to have two seasons of eligibility left after this campaign. Bates-Diop was averaging 9.7 points per game.
Bloomington Thunder lost at Green Bay 4-2, and now return home tonight and tomorrow night as the Dubuque Fighting Saints visit for a 7 o’clock face-off at the Coliseum.
Patrick Kane scored in the first minute of overtime as the Blackhawks beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-3. Kane also provided two assists whilee Artem Anisimov scored twice.
The Carolina Hurricanes beat the Blues 4-2.
The United States has won the World Junior Hockey Championship for the first time since 2013 after a 5-4 victory over Canada in a five-round shootout.
