In girls high school basketball, Central Catholic defeated Pontiac 75-43, Cissna Park beat Dwight 45-39 and U-High defeated Olympia 51-29 to clinch the final Corn Belt Conference championship.

Illinois State sophomore forward Phil Fayne is the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week. Fayne led the Redbirds with 17.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game to lead ISU to two more Missouri Valley Conference wins.
After winning 11-straight games and improving to 10-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference for the first time in program history, the Illinois State men’s basketball team earned two votes in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll. The Redbirds were recognized in a national poll for the third-consecutive week. The Redbirds host Northern Iowa tomorrow night.
The Cardinals have been ordered by Major League Baseball to pay Houston $2 million dollars and give the Astros two picks in this year’s draft for an employee hacking the Astros’ computers. Commissioner Rob Manfred also banned former St. Louis scouting executive Christopher Correa for life. Correa pleaded guilty to unauthorized access of a protected computer last July was sentenced to four years in prison.
Former Cardinal Brandon Moss has reportedly agreed to a two-year, $12 million contract with the Royals. Moss hit 28 home runs last season with St. Louis.
