The Illinois Fighting Illini nailed 13 3-pointers in storming past Nebraska 73-57. Illinois has won three straight Big 10 games for the first since in two seasons.  We have our final John Groce Show of the season at 7 p.m. on WJEZ.

 

Illinois State has secured the number one seed in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The Redbirds edged Wichita State thanks to a stronger RPI rating. ISU will play at noon Friday against the winner of Indiana State and Evansville. 

 

ISU women’s lost at Evansville 60-56. The Redbirds trailed for much of the game, but pulled to within two late. Katrina Beck led ISU with 18 points.

 

The Thunder lost at Des Moines 6-2.

 

ISU baseball fell to Memphis 3-1.

 

Kurt Busch and Tony Stewart can cross a Daytona 500 victory off their wish list. Busch was an also-ran following his first 15 starts in NASCAR’s season-opening race before taking the checkered flag with a surge on the last lap. It’s also the first Daytona 500 win for Stewart-Haas Racing, and the first for Stewart as an owner or driver.

 

The Blackhawks skated past St. Louis 4-2 for the ninth win in 10 games.

 

Rickie Fowler won the Honda Classic in Florida.
