The Fighting Illini play their final home game of the season against Michigan State. We take the air at 7 on WJEZ.

 

In the high school basketball postseason, Olympia’s season came to an end in the sectional falling to Quincy Notre Dame 71-49. Heyworth’s season ended in the sectional at Arcola losing to Cissna Park 50-43.  In the sectional tonight, Dwight plays Watseka at Seneca, Ridgeview battles Fisher at Arcola. In the regionals, Pontiac plays Sandwich at Coal City and Prairie Central battles Herscher at Kankakee.

Illinois State senior guard Paris Lee has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and Defensive player of the year, along with taking home first team all conference honors. Second team mentions go to senior Deontae Hawkins and junior MiKyle McIntosh. Phil Fayne was named to the All-Newcomer team and Lee and senior Tony Wills were placed on the All-Defensive team.

 

The Bulls lost to Denver, 125-107.

 

Central Catholic’s longtime coach and athletic director Doug Atkins is retiring this summer.  Atkins has been the AD at Central for 11 years after serving as an assistant coach on Debbie Coffman’s girls basketball staff.

 

In the Big 10, Purdue beat Indiana, Maryland won at Rutgers, Ohio State by 1 over Penn State.
