University of Illinois baseball completed the weekend sweep of Indiana State with a 5-2 Sunday win at Illinois Field. The Illini next face Missouri on Tuesday night at GCS Ballpark in Sauget in the St. Louis Metro East.

The Cardinals opened the Major League Baseball season with a 4-3 win over the defending champion Cubs on Sunday night. Wilson Contreras tied the game for the Cubs with a three-run homer in the ninth inning, but Randal Grichuk ended the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth.
In the other Major League Baseball openers on Sunday, the Rays beat the Yankees 7-3 and the Diamondbacks walked off with a 6-5 triumph over the Giants. The White Sox open at home this afternoon against the Tigers.
The Bulls beat the New Orleans Pelicans 117-100 behind 39 points from Jimmy Butler.
The Boston Bruins beat the Blackhawks 3-2 while the Blues turned back the Nashville Predators 4-1.
South Carolina earned its first women’s basketball national championship with a 67-55 win over Mississippi State.
The men’s college basketball national title will be decided tonight in Glendale, Arizona as North Carolina takes on Gonzaga.
