One of the University of Illinois’ top basketball recruits, Jeremiah Tilmon of East St. Louis, has asked for a release of his National Letter of Intent. Tilmon said he wanted to re-evaluate his options after John Groce was fired at the end of the past season, although he said the Illini are still an option.

Former Illini coach John Groce has a new job, as the University of Akron introduced him yesterday as the Zips’ new men’s basketball coach.

The Cardinals and Cubs were rained out at Busch Stadium, and they’ll try again this afternoon in St. Louis.

Same for the Tigers and White Sox on the South Side, as they’ll continue their opening series this afternoon in Chicago.

The Minor League Baseball season begins tonight in many leagues across the country. The Peoria Chiefs open Midwest League play tonight at Burlington.

Wichita State appears to be set to move from the Missouri Valley to the American Athletic Conference. CBS Sports quotes sources as saying American presidents will vote later this week. Reports from several outlets indicate Missouri Valley Conference presidents and athletic directors are meeting on Sunday.

Round One of The Masters begins today in Augusta. Overall favorite Dustin Johnson is questionable to play after falling off stairs at his rental home.

The Bulls are in Philadelphia tonight.

The Blackhawks are in Anaheim while the Blues visit the Florida Panthers.​
