Illinois State beat Illinois Wesleyan 7-5 in Wednesday’s annual Horenberger-Bass Classic in baseball action. The visiting Titans scored three times in the first inning but the Redbirds put up crooked numbers in the second, third and fifth frames.
In high school softball, El Paso-Gridley shut out Dee-Mack 13-0.
In prep baseball, Fieldcrest beat Heyworth 6-3.
The Cardinals beat the Nationals 6-1. Mike Leake threw seven scoreless innings and retired 19 straight at one point. Stephen Piscotty drove a three-run homer on a 5-RBI day. The Cardinals take today off before visiting the Yankees for a three-game weekend series.
The Cubs handed out their World Series rings on Wednesday night, but the Dodgers spoiled the celebration with a 2-0 win in Chicago. The series concludes this afternoon at Wrigley Field, Hyun-Jin Ryu against Brett Anderson.
The White Sox had Wednesday off and continue their series in Cleveland tonight, Miguel Gonzalez against Josh Tomlin.
The Bulls ended the regular season with a 112-73 blowout win over the Brooklyn Nets and clinched a playoff berth. Jimmy Butler led the Bulls with 25 points.
The Blackhawks open their Stanley Cup Playoff series at home tonight against the Nashville Predators.
