Illinois baseball beat Northwestern 10-8 to take the deciding game of the weekend series. The Illini host Western Michigan tomorrow night.

 

Illinois softball swept Michigan State 6-5 and 9-5 to complete a weekend sweep. The Illini will host Butler Wednesday evening.

 

Illinois State baseball fell to Evansville 1-0 with a lead-off eighth-inning home run producing the game’s only score and complete the sweep for the Purple Aces. The Redbirds are at Notre Dame on Wednesday.

 

The Yankees beat the Cardinals 9-3 in the Sunday night Major League Baseball game to complete a weekend sweep and extend their winning streak to seven games. The Cardinals host Pittsburgh tonight with Lance Lynn on the mound against the Pirates’ Ivan Nova.

 

The Cubs lost at home 6-1 to the Pirates, who plated three runs in each of the last two innings to break open a pitchers’ duel. The Cubs host the Brewers tonight with John Lackey making the start for Chicago against Milwaukee’s Chase Anderson.

 

The White Sox earned a 3-1 win at Minnesota on a 10th-inning two-run homer from Avisail Garcia. The Sox send Derek Holland to the hill in New York tonight against the Yankees, who counter with Jordan Montgomery in a battle of left-handers.

 

The Bulls won their playoff opener with a 106-102 win over the Celtics. Game 2 is tomorrow night in Boston.

 

The Blues are up 3-0 in their first round Stanley Cup Playoff series with a 3-1 win over the Minnesota Wild. Jake Allen stopped 40 shots for the win. Game 4 is Wednesday night in St. Louis.

 

The Blackhawks are in Nashville tonight, down 2-0 in that first round series.

 

Wesley Bryan won the RBC Heritage in South Carolina for his first PGA Tour victory.
