The Cardinals rolled to a 9-4 win over the Marlins for their fourth straight victory, the best winning streak of the season. Carlos Martinez helped his own cause by driving in four runs. The Cardinals are now in first place for the first time this season. The series continues tonight in Miami with Adam Wainwright on the hill for the Cards against the Marlins’ Dan Straily.
The Cubs and Rockies were hailed out in Denver. They’ll make it up as a day-night doubleheader today, Jake Arrieta against Antonio Senzatela in the matinee and John Lackey versus Kyle Freeland tonight.
The White Sox took Monday off before hosting the Twins tonight. Hector Santiago takes the ball for the Twins against Mike Pelfrey for the Sox.
The Cubs have placed outfielder Jason Heyward on the 10-day disabled list with an injured knuckle on his right hand. The Cubs have also traded outfielder Matt Szczur to San Diego for minor leaguer Justin Hancock.
Illinois Wesleyan softball has earned a sixth straight NCAA berth. The Titans enter the post-season for the 16th time with a trip to Alma, Michigan, where they will face Otterbein College on Friday in the regional opener.
The CornBelters take the field this morning at the Corn Crib for an exhibition against Joliet. The Belters open the season Friday at River City.
