Adam Wainwright threw seven shutout innings while Yadier Molina homered twice to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-0 win over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. The Cardinals will host the Red Sox tomorrow night. The Cubs will host the reds tomorrow.

 

The White Sox beat the San Diego Padres 9-3 on the strength of an eight-run eighth inning. The Sox visit the Angels tonight.

 

Illinois baseball gave up four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning as Rutgers rallied for an 8-7 win.

Illinois Wesleyan softball has won an NCAA Div. III Regional title for the second year in a row with a 4-1 win at Alma, Michigan.

 

Illinois Wesleyan’s women’s lacrosse lost its NCAA regional opener to Rhodes College, 16-10.

 

After bowing out in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament semifinals, the Illinois State softball team has accepted a bid to host a regional round of the National Invitational Softball Tournament starting tomorrow at Marian Kneer Stadium. ISU will host IUPUI, Michigan State and Murray State in a double-elimination tournament.

 

Illinois state baseball took the lead in the bottom of the 9th, but gave it up in the last of the inning as Southern Illinois earned a 10-9 win in Carbondale.

 

The Normal Cornbelters are in the win column for the first time this season, salvaging one game in their season-opening series at River City, 11-10. Ty Morris and Yeixon Ruiz both hit three-run homers. the Belters will play their home opener tomorrow night against the Gateway Grizzlies.

 

South Korea’s Si Woo Kim, 21, has become the youngest winner of The Players Championship earning a three-shot victory over Ian Poulter and Louis Oosthuizen.

 

The Anaheim Ducks have evened the NHL’s Western Conference finals with 5-3 win over the Nashville Predators in Game 2.

 

The Golden State Warriors rallied from 25 points down to take game 1 of the NBA Western Conference Finals, 113-111, over San Antonio.
