In the baseball regionals, Tri-Valley, El Paso Gridley and Dee-Mack all won regional titles. LeRoy fell to Peoria Heights in the final at Colfax. Pontiac was knocked out by host Streator in the regional quarterfinals 18-8. Host Prairie Central beat East Peoria 8-3 in the regional opener at Fairbury.

 

In the softball regionals, Dwight hammered St. Anne 13-1 to claim the 1A regional title at Dwight.LeRoy, Eureka, Heyworth all won regional crowns.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals start a week long road trip in Los Angeles tonight against Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers. Lance Lynn pitches for St. Louis.

John Lackey was roughed up for five runs in five innings as the Chicago Cubs dropped the opener of their home series with the San Francisco Giants, 6-4.

Illinois State was knocked out of the national invitational softball tournament finals, with two losses yesterday. The Redbirds fell to Lamar 2-1, then were one-hit by Liberty 3-0.

The Golden State Warriors await a possible third straight NBA final against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Warriors closed out the Western Conference Final against the San Antonio Spurs with a 129-115 victory.

 

The Nashville Predators have advanced to their first NHL Stanley Cup final, eliminating the Anaheim Ducks with a 6-3 win in Game 6. The Predators will play either defending champion Pittsburgh or Ottawa for the Stanley Cup. Game 1 is Monday.
