The University of Illinois men’s golf program is quietly one of the most successful on the Urbana-Champaign campus, as the Illini have qualified for the NCAA match play round for the fifth straight year and six of the last seven. The Illini finished the stroke play portion of the NCAA national tournament in third place to earn a spot in today’s quarterfinals. The Illini face the University of Southern California today at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
The CornBelters took Monday off and travel to the Metro East area tonight to begin a three-game midweek series against the Gateway Grizzlies. Lefty Bob Wheatley (1-1) goes for the CornBelters while right-hander Adam Eggnatz carries an 0-2 mark to the hill for the Grizzlies.
Heyworth is in the state softball finals after a 7-2 win over Ottawa Marquette in the Class 1A Supersectional at Illinois Wesleyan. The Hornets face Goreville on Friday at 12:30 at East Side Centre in East Peoria.

The Cards host the Dodgers again tonight in an earlier start of 6:05. Kenta Maeda is on the mound for the Dodgers while the Cardinals go with Michael Wacha.
The Cubs have lost four straight as they dropped their Memorial Day game by a 5-2 score to the Padres. The series continues tonight in San Diego as Eddie Butler takes the ball for the Cubs.
The White Sox enjoyed the holiday with a 5-4 win over the Red Sox. Melky Cabrera drove home the winning run with a seventh-inning double. Former White Sox ace Chris Sale makes his first start against his former team tonight while the South Siders hand the pill to Jose Quintana.
The Pittsburgh Penguins took the opening game of the Stanley Cup Finals with a 5-3 win over the Nashville Predators. The Penguins grabbed an early three-goal lead but had to rally with two goals in the final four minutes. Game 2 is tomorrow night in Pittsburgh.
Tiger Woods says an unexpected reaction to a mix of prescription medications led to his arrest on suspicion of DUI early yesterday in Florida. Woods says he takes full responsibility and alcohol was not involved.
