The Cubs lost 6-5 to the Rays as Tampa Bay rode a five-run fourth inning. The Rays visited Wrigley Field for the first time since 2014 when they were managed by current Cubs skipper Joe Maddon. The rematch is this afternoon as lefty Blake Snell throws for the Rays while the Cubs give the ball to right-hander John Lackey.
The White Sox lost 6-5 at Oakland as Franklin Barreto ended the game with a home run. Melky Cabrera tied the game in the top of the ninth with a two-out single. The series concludes this afternoon as the Sox send Mike Pelfrey to the hill against the A’s Sonny Gray in a battle of right-handers.
The Cardinals dropped a 5-2 decision to the Marlins as a pitcher’s duel broke open with a five-run sixth inning for Miami. The Marlins beat the Cardinals for the first time in five tries this season and even the four-game series. The teams square off again tonight at Busch Stadium as Edinson Volquez starts on the mound for the Marlins against the Cardinals’ Mike Leake.​
The CornBelters beat Washington 6-4 for their second straight win. Aaron Dudley homered in a three-run fifth inning to give the Belters the lead for good. The middle game of the series is tonight at the Corn Crib as All-Star Trevor Foss starts for the Wild Things against Belters righty Edgar De la Rosa.
