Yadier Molina gave the Cardinals the lead with an eighth-inning home run but the Pirates tied it in the ninth with a Jordy Mercer double and won it with a single by Adam Frazier. The Cardinals continue the road trip in New York as Adam Wainwright starts on the mound while the Mets counter with Zack Wheeler.
The Cubs clobbered the Orioles 8-0 behind a masterful start by Jose Quintana. The newly-acquired lefty gave up three hits and struck out 12 without a walk in his seven innings in his debut since his trade from the White Sox. Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo each hit two-run homers and Ian Happ smacked a two-run double. The Cubs send Jon Lester to the hill tonight to open a series in Atlanta. The Braves give the ball to right-hander Julio Teheran.
The White Sox were swept by the Mariners at Guaranteed Rate Field as Nelson Cruz lined a homer to left for his second game-winning long ball in two days for a 7-6 win in 10 innings. The White Sox have today off before hosting the Dodgers tomorrow.
The CornBelters lost 8-7 at Florence in the rubber game of a Frontier League series in suburban Cincinnati. The Belters gave up a lead in the sixth inning as the Freedom scored four times. The Belters are off today before continuing the second half of their road trip to Traverse City tomorrow.
