The CornBelters lost 4-3 at Traverse City. Alexi Rivera clubbed a grand slam to right in the first inning for all the runs the Beach Bums would need to avoid a CornBelters sweep. The Belters return to the Corn Crib tonight for a brief three-game homestand with the Windy City ThunderBolts. Right-handers battle on the mound, Clay Chapman for the Bolts and Julio Vivas for the Belters. It’s live on WJBC.com at 6:20. Post-game Friday fireworks return to the Corn Crib tonight and pro wrestling legend Ted DiBiase, the Million Dollar Man, appears. On Saturday, 2004 Olympic gold medal gymnast Carly Patterson appears before and during the game, and the series concludes Sunday with a 4:35 p.m. contest.

 

The Cardinals fell to the Mets 3-2 as Jose Reyes beat out an infield single to score Yoenis Cespedes from third base. Trevor Rosenthal issued a leadoff walk to Cespedes and failed to cover first base in time on a sharp grounder to first baseman Matt Carpenter. The Cardinals visit the Cubs this afternoon as Carlos Martinez faces Jake Arrieta in the mound match-up. The Cubs had Thursday off.

 

The White Sox resume play after Thursday off with a visit to Kansas City tonight. James Shields takes the ball for the Sox against the Royals’ Ian Kennedy.
