The Cubs beat the White Sox 8-3 to move into first place in the National League Central for the first time since May 26. Jake Arrieta pitched two-hit ball into the seventh and Anthony Rizzo drove in four runs, including a bases-clearing double. The Crosstown Cup concludes tonight on the South Side with Jon Lester starting for the Cubs while the Sox hand the ball to Mike Pelfrey.
The Cardinals beat the Rockies 10-5 to complete a three-game sweep. Paul DeJong hit his 14th homer of the season, tying him for the team lead with four others even though he’s played in fewer than half of the Cardinals games this season after being called up in late May.

The CornBelters have won three straight and have taken seven of the last 10 to move back to .500 after a doubleheader sweep at Washington 1-0 and 11-4. The Belters conclude the series tonight in suburban Pittsburgh.
Illinois State men’s basketball will play one of last season’s Final Four teams. The Redbirds will face South Carolina on November 16 in the first of three games at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.
Illinois State and Western Illinois will meet on the football field for the 100th time this season. The Redbirds and Leathernecks will count down to the November 4th game with a joint series of social media posts including memorable moments, photos and videos. Fans will have opportunities to share moments, vote in polls and submit pictures for giveaways. The series began in November 1904.
