The Cubs visit Milwaukee tonight, where the Brewers trail the Cubs by a game and a half in the National League Central. Lefties Jose Quintana and Brent Suter are on the mound. The White Sox host American League Central-leading Cleveland tonight as right-hander Danny Salazar starts for the Indians while the Sox hand the ball to lefty Derek Holland.
The Cardinals lost their series opener with the Diamondbacks 4-0. The only runs came on one swing as J.D. Martinez hit a grand slam in the fourth inning. The series continues tonight at Busch Stadium with lefty Robbie Ray on the hill for the Snakes against Cardinals right-hander Michael Wacha.
The CornBelters lost 10-6 at Washington as the Wild Things salvaged a game in the series with a six-run eighth inning. The Belters winning streak ends at three as they head to suburban Cleveland for a weekend series against the Lake Erie Crushers.
Detroit media reports say Illinois State men’s basketball assistant coach DeAndre Haynes has been hired as an assistant at Michigan. Haynes wasn’t on the bench for any Redbird games as he was hired in May to replace Dean Oliver, who took a job at Wisconsin.
