You can still get in for your flu shot

Even if you didn’t make it to WJEZ to the flu shot clinic, you can still get your vaccinations at the health department.

WJEZ held its second annual flu shot clinic Monday with the help of the Livingston County Health Department, Bank of Pontiac, Pfaff’s Bakery and County Market, and while the clinic was hugely successful, people who couldn’t make it can still get their shots.

Linda Rhodes, health education and marketing director for the health department, explained why it’s a good idea to get your shot.

“Unfortunately, some people do die from having influenza or the flu. Although we’re having fun here this morning, it is a serious situation. If you look back through history before we had flu vaccines available, people did die from the flu. We look at people who are especially susceptible to complications. Those are going to be the elderly, the children, and people with chronic health conditions – those people absolutely have to get their flu shot. As far as I’m concerned, I want everyone who works with me and I encounter in the public to have had their flu shots. I’m going to have mine, but please don’t go exposing me to something, so let’s all get our flu shots,” Rhodes said.
