It’s not every day television crews find their way to Livingston County, but Paul Ritter and his family hosted the team from the Garage Squad in June to do a complete restoration of his grandfather’s 1950 pickup truck.

Ritter said he acquired the truck in November of last year. His grandfather bought it in 1950, used it on his farm, then retired it to a tool shed in 1970, where it sat. Since then, he and his cousins played with it as children, before he acquired it in 2016. The Garage Squad crew went to the Ritter’s home for two weeks in June, after Ritter was one of the 10 out of more than 20,000 submissions chosen for the show, and the entire journey will be televised tonight, which will include the unveiling of the restored truck.

“It’s so exciting and I don’t even know what to say. It was an amazing adventure and while not all of my family was able to be involved with it because there were at different places at different times, but we’ve been able to share in the joy of bringing this family heirloom – essentially the heart and soul of what my grandma and grandpa tried to put together on the farm, brought back to a very proud state. I’m excited. Every once in awhile, I’ll go out to the garage and just start it up,” Ritter said.

Garage Squad will be televised at 9 p.m. on Velocity tonight.
