Credit reporting agency Equifax experienced a security breach between mid May and July and discovered July 29 of this year when information including social security numbers of 143 million consumers was potentially compromised.
The breach is the most significant data breach in recent history, topping the one that Yahoo experienced last year that involved more than one billion people. While that security breach involved phone numbers and passwords, the one Equifax experienced includes things from names, social security numbers, birth dates, addresses and even driver’s license numbers in some cases.
More information is available at the Equifax website, or you can even check to see if you’re at risk at Equifaxsecurity2017.com/potential-impact.
