After more than 38 years as a mainstay in county government, Livingston County Treasurer Barb Sear announced Thursday morning she will not be seeking re-election in the November 2018 election.

Sear began her career with the county with the highway department 23 years ago before holding the title of county treasurer for 15. She will be a few weeks short of 40 years at the time her term ends.

“I think it’s about time to let someone else take over. I really appreciate all the cooperation our office has received from banks, taxpayers, other department heads. It’s been great working with the county employees and I commend my staff. They are so energetic, hardworking and dedicated to serving our taxpayers. I’m proud, I think, to say that I think we’ve improved efficiency and customer service during my tenure and I’m sure that will continue with the next office holder,” Sear said.
