A Pontiac man was arrested after a two hour standoff that consisted of several departments at the scene and two blocks of Cleary Street closed off late Friday morning.
According to a press release from the Pontiac Police, officers were dispatched to an apartment building in the 400 block of West North Street shortly before 11 a.m. regarding a report Justin Doan was pointing a gun out an upper window and shooting in an unknown direction. Police were further advised the suspect shot at a female outside, but they weren’t sure at the time whether it was a BB gun or not. They were also informed a female was being held in the apartment against her will.
Over the next two hours, police isolated the area and officers were able to speak to Doan by phone. He was refusing to exit the building and wouldn’t let the female out or to speak to police. Doan and the female occupant ended up exiting the building shortly after 1 p.m.
Doan was arrested for possession of a stun gun by a felon, aggravated assault and violation of conditional discharge and was taken to Livingston County Jail pending a hearing.
Pontiac Police were assisted by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Police, Streator Police, Bloomington Police and equipment from the Pontiac Fire Department.
This case remains under investigation and other charges may be pending.
