Stay safe during this dry season

The combination of hot, dry weather has caused conditions in the area to become potential fire hazards.

Pontiac Fire Chief Scott Runyon gives some safety tips and warnings to keep people safe during this very dry weather.

“Just a little reminder, it’s harvest season and we’re experiencing a very dry situation out there. Be very careful when you’re having your open fires at night, your cookouts and certain things, it’s very dry. Keep your fires as small as possible so no blowing embers would happen to blow out and catch your grass on fire. A message for farmers is just be very, very careful. It’s extremely dry and we’d hate to see you catch your crop on fire. Most fires in the field are caused by a sparking or hot exhaust beneath your vehicles. Be very mindful of maintenance and please, just be very careful, because those can be very dangerous. Once again, it is extremely dry, so be very cautious,” Runyon said.
