After rain had threatened the forecast for a week, the Livingston County Ag Expo went off without a hitch or a drop of rain for the 1,600 students and many volunteers Thursday at the Livingston County 4-H Park.

The students spent the day going around to 40 different stations, from electric and water safety to interacting with small animals and birds of prey to recycling demonstrations.

Fifth grade students from Prairie Central Upper Elementary had some comments about the first half of their day as they were finishing lunch. Alaina said she learned a wide variety of things.

“I like how the people here are nice and kind. I learned about different types of soil and animals,” Alaina said.

Allie learned how a common farm product helps out many body functions.

“Dairy can help your eyes, muscles and heart,” Allie said

Bella said the birds of prey station taught her how people have successfully saved endangered species.

“The different birds – the red-tailed hawk was endangered but now they’re really common,” Bella said.

The Livingston County Ag Fair happens every other year and is a part of the Livingston County Ag Literacy Program through several ag-based entities.
