Tuesday gas leak affects 300 block of Mill Street

Noontime Tuesday brought some excitement to downtown Pontiac, after a gas leak occurred right outside the Radio Pontiac building.

Our very own Cat has more.

“So, we are just functioning here at the radio station, business as usual, and News Director Cynthia Grau informs all of us that there is a gas main break behind our building. At that point, we’re calling Fire Chief Scott Runyon, we’re calling 911, Nicor is being called. It took a good half hour to get the situation stabilized. We evacuated our building because it was just outside our back door and gas was just permeating our entire building. So we aired out the building for the remainder of the day. I sent staff home that was sensitive to the gas, because that can cause, outside the obvious, it can cause headaches and sore throats. A few of us braved it and stayed behind. I am grateful to Cynthia Grau for being the ‘woman on the scene’ and letting all of us know we had a problem,” Cat said.

Firefighters checked all the buildings on the entire west side the 300 Block of North Mill Street, which were cleared for natural gas within an hour.
