Veterans Parkway in Bloomington-Normal and a post office in Bloomington are closer to carrying the name of a fallen soldier.

The Illinois House has unanimously passed a resolution designating the entire length of Veterans Parkway as Army Ranger Sergeant Joshua P. Rodgers Memorial Highway.

Rodgers died on April 27th while on active duty in Afghanistan. State Representative Dan Brady presented the resolution on the House floor:

“House Joint Resolution 84 simply seeks to acknowledge to Sgt. Josh Rogers memory, who was killed in the line of duty, to rename a section of Veterans Parkway in Bloomington in his honor,” Brady said.

The resolution now goes to the Senate.

Congressman Darin LaHood also introduced a resolution to rename the post office on Towanda Avenue in Bloomington in Rodgers’ honor. That measure heads to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
