Illinois men’s basketball lost 92-91 in overtime to Maryland as the Illini overcame a 19-point halftime deficit to send the game to extra time. Maryland’s Bruno Fernando tipped in a shot at the buzzer to send the game into overtime with the score tied 75-75. Anthony Cowan sank a free throw with six-tenths of a second left in overtime for the win. Leron Black scored 18 points to lead Illinois while Mark Alstork contributed 17 and Aaron Jordan 15. The Illini host Austin Peay on Wednesday. The Brad Underwood Show makes its season debut tonight at 7:00 on Classic Hits 98.9.

 

The Illinois women won at Memphis 63-47.

 

Illinois State women’s basketball scored the first bucket of the game and never led after that as Butler defeated the Redbirds 56-45. The Redbirds are at Milwaukee on Thursday.

 

The Bears lost 15-14 to the 49ers at Soldier Field as former Chicago kicker Robbie Gould nailed five field goals, including the game-winner with four seconds left. The Bears dropped their fifth straight game to fall to 3-9 while the 49ers improve to 2-10. The Bears are at Cincinnati on Sunday.

 

Other NFL winners were the Vikings, Jets, Titans, Jaguars, Dolphins, Ravens, Patriots, Chargers, Raiders, Rams, Saints, Cowboys, Packers in overtime over the Buccaneers 26-20 and the Seahawks over the Eagles 24-10 in the Sunday night game. The Bengals host the Steelers tonight.

 

The college football playoff semifinals are set. Alabama will face Clemson in the Sugar Bowl and Georgia will take on Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl, both on New Year’s Day. The winners will meet on January 8 in the national championship game in Atlanta. Big Ten Conference champion Ohio State was left out of the playoff.
