Longtime councilman to step down

After more than 50 years as an alderman for the Pontiac City Council, Frank Panno has chosen to step down.

Mayor Bob Russell was a guest on a recent Community Forum and reflected on Panno’s time with the City.

“Frank was elected to council on May 1, 1961. Fifty six years. I believe he was the second longest serving alderman in the State of Illinois. We haven’t verified that yet. That is quite a commitment, whether you agree with his views or not. At a minimum, just going to Council meetings, that’s 1500 Council meetings and that’s a commitment that’s for sure not seen in this day and age. We’re more than thankful for all the years he served the city,” Russell said.

Russell said he has 60 days to fill the position and interested individuals are asked to call him at City Hall at 844-3396.
