In high school basketball on Wednesday night – one the few remaining games before the holiday tournaments – Flanagan-Cornell fell to Heyworth in Heart of Illinois play, 67-51. The Falcons drop to 4-6, 1-5 in the league. Flanagan-Cornell is next in action Tuesday taking on Peru St. Bede in the Marseilles Holiday Tournament.

 

The Illinois State women have advanced to the championship game of the Beach Classic at Long Beach. California native Hannah Green led ISU with 19 points in a 59-51 win over host Long Beach State. Illinois State will play Northeastern on Thursday afternoon.

 

Illinois State football coach Brock Spack has introduced his new recruiting class for the new early signing period. It includes 19 incoming freshman and one transfer from the University of Illinois, sophomore offensive lineman Gabe Megginson. The Jacksonville, Ill. native will have two years of eligibility remaining.

 

Illinois State basketball coach Dan Muller has announced graduate transfer Jerron Martin has left the basketball team. Martin played in 10 games this seasons. The Redbirds travel to take on the Evansville Purple Aces on Saturday. The Aces were pounded at 4th ranked Duke on Wednesday, 104-40.

 

A big upset in college action, No. 5 North Carolina lost to Wofford 79-75 at Chapel Hill.

 

The Bulls won their seventh straight, 112-94 over Orlando. Denzel Valentine led Chicago with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
