A 58-year-old Fairbury man lost his life Thursday evening in a two-vehicle accident south of Dwight on Route 47.

According to a press release from Livingston County Coroner Danny Watson, at around 6 p.m., Douglas Benge’s southbound vehicle crossed the center line and made contact with a northbound semi tractor trailer. While the driver of the semi was not injured, Benge was pronounced dead at the scene.

This accident is being investigated by the Illinois State Police, Illinois State Police crash reconstruction team and the Livingston County Coroner’s Office. Assisting at the scene were Odell Fire, Duffy Ambulance and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Police.
