The busiest week of the high school basketball season is in full swing today as holiday tournaments continue. The State Farm Holiday Classic opens today with 32 games at four venues in Bloomington-Normal. The Pekin Insurance Holiday Tournament begins today with Normal West playing Limestone in the opener at 9 this morning. The Pontiac Holiday Tournament opens its three-day run tomorrow.

 

In boys action at the Marseilles tournament, Hall defeated Dwight 71-49, Marquette downed Woodland 71-50 and St. Bede defeated Flanagan-Cornell 67-51. Dwight takes on Somonauk at 9 this morning and Woodland faces Flanagan-Cornell at 1:30.

 

In girls play, Dwight defeated Paw Paw 63-44 in the first round of the Earlville-Leland tournament. At Riverton, Heyworth picked up wins over North Mac 70-26 and Riverton 61-35. The Hornets will move to a semifinal game at 3:00 on Thursday.

 

The Bulls won at Milwaukee 115-106 for their eighth victory in the last 10 games. The Bulls host the Knicks tonight.

 

The National Hockey League returns from its Christmas break as the Blues host the Nashville Predators tonight.

 

In college football, Duke defeated Northern Illinois 36-14 in the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit.
