In high school girls basketball Pontiac edged Prairie Central 49-47. The Lady Indians were led by Addison Masching’s 12 points. Kari Slagel posted 16 in defeat for the Hawks. Eureka’s girls rolled past Fieldcrest 57-29. Lexington won big at Blue Ridge 50-26. El Paso-Gridley won at GCMS 41-37. Heyworth edged Ridgeview 53-50.

 

The Alabama Crimson Tide are college football’s national champions yet again. the Tide rallied from 13-points down in the second half behind their freshman backup quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. He threw the game-winning 42-yard touchdown strike in overtime in Bama’s 26-23 win over Georgia in the national title game in Atlanta. The Tide win their 11th national title and fifth in nine years.

 

The Chicago Bears will introduce Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy as their new head coach on Tuesday. The 39-year-old Nagy spent the past 10 seasons working under Andy Reid in Philadelphia and Kansas City.

 

Former University of Illinois linebacker Dana Howard has been chosen for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. The East St. Louis native becomes the 17th Illini to enter the Hall.

 

The Chicago Bulls lost to Houston 116-107 even after overcoming a 21-point deficit. Chicago has dropped five of its last six.
