Council looks to further engage the public in decision making

It’s been since 1997 that Pontiac instituted its newest comprehensive plan for the City, and the Pontiac City Council is looking for public input when it comes to local governmental processes.

City Administrator Bob Karls was a guest on a recent Community Forum and talked about the process the City would like to use.

“We ran across a process called Community Heart and Soul. It’s been developed on the East Coast by a foundation and it’s a process where the local government and citizen engage in meaningful discussion of what’s important to the citizens and what’s important to the community and development of that long term comprehensive plan around what’s important – establishment of community goals and really engaging the community. We’re going to be ramping up pretty quickly on that process. There will be neighborhood meetings, there will be all sorts of opportunities to get public input. Those will be evaluated and then we’ll be developing the community goals and plans around what’s important. So, we’re really excited about that,” Karls said.
