At the McLean County/Heart of Illinois Conference Tournament, the girls’ semifinals are tonight at Illinois Wesleyan’s Shirk Center. Lexington plays El Paso-Gridley and Ridgeview entertains Eureka. Last night at El Paso, Fieldcrest held off Flanagan-Cornell-Woodland 39-28 in the consolation semifinals, The Knights will play Fisher in the consolation final. The Bunnies beat Dee-Mack 37-35. In the fifth place bracket, Heyworth topped Tremont 64-40, GCMS bested LeRoy 50-43.

 

Illinois State took the ‘War on 74,’ pulling away from Bradley 70-57, in front of about 6,300 fans at Redbird Arena. Milik Yarbrough led ISU with 20 points and 11 rebounds. The Redbirds improve to 10-9, 4-3 in the Missouri Valley. ISU will visit Indiana State on Saturday.

 

Illinois Wesleyan overcame a halftime deficit to pull away from rival Millikin, 78-62. The Titan women won their 12th in a row, 79-62, over Millikin.

 

The Fighting Illini have lost not one but two quarterbacks. Jeff George Junior has announced he will transfer with two years of eligibility remaining. Chayce Crouch plans to retire from football. George and Crouch started all but two of Illinois’s 12 games last season.

 

Illinois State football coach Brock Spack has rounded out his coaching staff as he announced the hiring of Brian Hendricks as the team’s new defensive line coach. Hendricks comes to Illinois State, after serving as an assistant coach at Montana for the past three seasons.  There, he worked alongside new ISU defensive coordinator Travis Niekamp, who will now coach the inside linebackers for the Redbirds as Jake Schoonover has resigned.

 

The Chicago Bulls took at lead into the second half against defending champion Golden State, but the Warriors rallied for their 14th straight road win 119-112.

 

The CornBelters have announced former Cardinals great Ray Lankford has been added to the Legends Game lineup on August 4th at the Corn Crib.
