In high school girls basketball, Pontiac rolled to a 52-23 win over IVC. Prairie Central lost at home to Central Catholic 62-24. El Paso-Gridley cruised to a 40-17 home win over Blue Ridge. Fieldcrest won at Fisher 47-38. Flanagan-Cornell-Woodland bested Roanoke-Benson 47-33. Lexington scored a 41-30 win at GCMS. Tremont topped Ridgeview 48-40.

 

The Fighting Illini gave up a State Farm Center record as Michigan State connected on 68 percent of its field goal tries for the game as the 6th-ranked Spartans downed the Illini, 87-74. U of I lost its eight straight Big Ten game despite forcing 25 turnovers, the most for Sparty since 2005. The Illini host Indiana tomorrow night.

 

The Central Illinois Flying Aces topped the Lincoln Stars 4-1 in a Monday matinee at Grossinger Motors Arena.

 

The Chicago Blackhawks were shutout by the Tampa Bay Lightning, 2-0, for the Hawks third straight loss.

 

The Chicago Bulls dropped a 17-point lead in the final five minutes of regulation as the New Orleans Pelicans pulled out a double-overtime win 132-128. 

 

The Normal CornBelters have announced the addition of Derek Lee to the 3rd Annual Legends Game lineup at the Corn Crib on August 4th. D-Lee played 15 Major League seasons, a bulk of them with the Cubs.
