In the girls basketball regional finals, Lexington took down Heart of Illinois foe Ridgeview 49-43 in the Class 1A Fisher Regional, sending the Lady Minutemen into the sectional at Colfax next Monday against Cissna Park. Cissna Park defeated Dwight, 45-33, to take the Illinois Lutheran Regional at Crete.

At the Class 2A regional at Tremont, El Paso-Gridley lost to Midwest Central 48-27.

 

In regular season play, Pontiac won at Prairie Central 48-44. Addison Masching scored 18 points to lead PTHS, Emily Wilson paced the Hawks with 14.

 

The Fighting Illini lost to Wisconsin, 78-69, at State Farm Center, despite 32 points from Trent Frazier. The Badgers have won 13 straight against the Illini, who fall to 12-13. U of I will host Penn State on Sunday night.

 

Freshman Elijah Clarence scored a season-high 15 points and fellow freshman Taylor Bruninga has a big three-point play late in regulation to help the Redbirds overcome Southern Illinois, 76-68, at Redbird Arena. The win puts ISU in a second-place in the Missouri Valley Conference with SIU at 8-5. The Redbirds visit Valparaiso on Sunday.

 

Illinois State’s women visit SIU tonight.

 

The Illinois State softball team lost its season opener to host South Florida at a tournament at Tampa, 3-0. The Redbirds play two more games today.

 

The Central Illinois Flying Aces skate at Chicago tonight.
