The Pontiac Elks Lodge is holding specials throughout the week in honor of its anniversary.

Illinois Vice President of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks Greg Verdun was a guest on a recent Community Forum and gave a history of the Pontiac Elks. He said it celebrated its centennial in 2006 and now boasts about 600 members from throughout Livingston County.

“We’re having different specials all throughout the week for our members and if you know a member, as them to take you out for lunch. We have a $1.50 special every day this week. Friday night we’re going to have a party. We’re going to have cake and dinner specials for our members. If you know a member, say, ‘Hey, I’d like to join you. I’d like to become a member,’” Verdun said.

The Elks Lodge provides grant money for programs including the First United Methodist Church tutoring program, the humane society, the Pontiac Police’s Special Olympics fund and it’s also the third in the United States in providing scholarships.
