In the high school basketball regionals, top-seed Ridgeview rolled to a 63-33 win over Cornerstone in the Class 1A Woodland Regional, sending the Mustangs into tomorrow night’s final against Grant Park. In the Class 1A regional at St. Anne, Tri-Point knocked off Flanagan-Cornell and he Chargers will advance to the final tomorrow against St. Anne.

 

The Fighting Illini play their home finale tonight against Purdue.

 

Illinois State got the best of Drake in overtime 89-81 in the home finale at Redbird Arena. ISU ties Drake for third in the Missouri Valley with one game left, Saturday at Loyola.

 

Loyola clinches its first outright MVC title with a win at Southern Illinois. Brady won at Missouri State. Indiana State bested Evansville.

 

The Chicago Blackhawks edged the Ottawa Senators, 3-2, in a shootout.

 

The United States won the women’s hockey gold with a 3-2 shootout victory over Canada, which had won four straight Olympic gold medals. In skiing, Team USA’s Mikaela Shiffrin came away with a silver medal in the women’s combined, and in snowboarding, American David Wise successfully defended his gold medal in the men’s halfpipe, edging teammate Alex Ferreira, while American Jamie Anderson won silver in the women’s Big Air competition. The Olympics conclude Sunday with Ivanka Trump leading the U.S delegation.

 

Pontiac’s baseball program has invited retiring Peoria Chiefs President Rocky Vonachen to speak at the baseball team’s first State of the Game breakfast. It will be Saturday, March 10 at 9 a.m. at Baby Bulls Fine Dining in Pontiac. Tickets cost $25. Prior to the breakfast and meeting the public, Vonachen will meet privately with members of the Indians’ baseball team at 8:30.  Other tentative presenters at the event will be representatives from the Boys & Girls Club, Pontiac Jr. Baseball and the City of Pontiac as they will share information with the public about their activities.  Tickets for the event are $25 for the general public and are available this week at Donnell’s Printing in Pontiac, and from any baseball Indian.
