Regional basketball champions will be crowned tonight as Tri-Point takes on host St. Anne in a Class 1A regional championship and No. 1 seed Ridgeview plays Grant Park for the Class 1A Regional final at Woodland.
The girls state basketball finals open Friday at Redbird Arena for classes 1A and 2A. Eureka plays Chicago Harlan in a 2A semifinal at 5:30 p.m.
Lexington sophomore Jayden Standish has advanced to the Class 1A Country Financial Three-Point Showdown at Redbird Arena. Standish hit 8 of 15 attempts and nailed 6 of 10 in the tiebreaking round.
Illinois dropped its home finale to No. 9 Purdue, 93-86, as Boilermaker’s guard Carsen Edwards lit it up for 40 points. The Illini close out the regular season Sunday afternoon at Rutgers.

Illinois Wesleyan plays North Central in the semifinals of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament at Rock Island. The IWU women host Elmhurst in a semifinal at Shirk Center.

The U.S.’s Mirai Nagasu finished 12th in the free skate and a disappointing 10th overall as the Americans failed to medal in figure skating at the Pyeongchang Olympics. 15-year-old Alina Zagitova won the women’s figure skating competition to become the first Russian gold medalist. Zagitova edged out her friend and training partner Evgenia Medvedeva to end the gold drought for the Olympic Athletes from Russia. The Winter Games end Sunday.
Baseball’s spring training schedule starts on Friday. In the Cactus League, the Chicago Cubs play the Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago White Sox take on the Los Angeles Dodgers. The St. Louis Cardinals open the Grapefruit League against the Miami Marlins. All 30 Major League teams will wear Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School baseball caps to honor the Parkland, Fla., community after the mass shooting at the school last week.
