Two employees were attacked at Pontiac Correctional Center Wednesday evening leaving one with injuries.

According to a press release from AFSCME Local 494 President William Lee, a sergeant was violently struck in the head with an object at close range by an inmate while inside the North Administrative Detention Cell House. He and a lieutenant then attempted to leave the gallery but were assaulted by other inmates in different cells by way of throwing objects at them from behind the bars.

The uprising was apparently a planned attack by the inmates in that cell house. The inmates involved were then subdued by the Tactical Team.

The facility was placed on a Level 1 lockdown at that time. Procedures and policies were followed by PCC and the State Police took evidence of weapons used and the destruction of the cell house.

The sergeant was treated and released at OSF Saint James – John W. Albrecht Medical Center.

The Illinois Department of Corrections is investigating this incident.
