The 2nd annual Trivia Night to benefit the Livingston County American Cancer Society is happening Saturday night beginning at 6 at the Dwight VFW.
Community Development manager Mallory Audo describes what the funds raised will benefit.
“Funds raised through the events we hold in Livingston County both support research and cancer patients and their families locally. The American Cancer Society is the largest non-profit funder of cancer research in the United States. Other than the US government, we are the largest funder of research. So, the majority of the funds raised do go toward that. We also are in each community in the county. We provide free wigs to patients. We provide hotel stays or lodging at our Hope Lodge when people need to travel for treatment. We provide rides through our Road to Recover Program for patients who need to get to and from treatment but don’t have a way to get there, because the largest barrier for cancer patients shouldn’t be getting treatment. So, we’re there for them every step of the way and we have a variety of resources available for that,” Audo said.
Audo also said the group is hoping to raise $100,000 in four special events through the season.
“We are doing what we’re calling Four Large Days of Hope this year in Livingston County. There will be four significantly large fundraisers throughout the year to help raise money for ACS. So, that’s trivia night this weekend, we’ll have a 5K in June, we’ll have our annual Relay for Life in August and we’ll have our Cash for a Cure Cash Bash in September. We’re trying to do different events through the entire Livingston County area to engage more people and to raise more funds,” Audo said.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and trivia begins at 7. Teams of 8 are $80. There are limited tables available, so to RSVP, contact Audo at 309-688-3480 or comment on any event Facebook posts.
