It was upset Sunday in the NCAA basketball tournament. No. 2 seed Cincinnati was upset by 7th-seeded Nevada in the South Region, 75-73. The Wolfpack rallied from 22 points down in the final 11 minutes to advance to the Sweet 16 against Loyola on Thursday in Atlanta.

 

Another two seed, North Carolina was routed by Texas A&M 86-65. Top seed in the West Region, Xavier was knocked off by Florida State, 75-70. Third-seeded Michigan State was knocked off by Syracuse, 55-53. Purdue survived a late scare from Butler, 75-73. Clemson destroyed Auburn, 84-53.

 

Kansas State ended UMBC’s Cinderella run, 50-43. West Virginia topped Marshall, 94-71.

 

Pontiac’s boys track team had several strong finishers at the Gene Armer Invitational at the University of Illinois. Ethan Schickel, Josh Davies, Seth Corrigan, Noah Parra took 5th in the 4×800 relay.Ethan Lee, Cobi Parra, Cameron Dawson, Colton Clesson finished 8th in the 4×200 relay. Ethan Lee, Cameron Dawson, Josh Davies, Colton Clesson came in 6th in the 4×400 relay.Angelo Borrego came in 5th in the Triple Jump and Cameron Dawson finished fifth in the High Jump.

 

The Central Illinois Flying Aces played just one game this weekend, a 6-3 home loss to the Madison Capitols on Sunday night.

 

The Chicago Blackhawks got a hat trick from Alex DeBrincat but it wasn’t enough in a 5-4 loss to the St. Louis Blues.

 

Rory McIlroy finished strong to take the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill. tiger Woods pulled to within one shot on the back nine but ended up tying for 5th place.

 

Martin Truex Jr. cruised to victory at Fontana, Calif. for his first win of the season.
