Two die in Dwight house fire

Two Dwight men perished in structure fire on South Union Street in Dwight early Wednesday morning.

According to a press release from the Dwight Fire Protection District, the Dwight Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 110 South Union Street, where they found a two story multi-family residence heavily involved in fire on all floors. Crews found Guy Sassenger and Chad David Weber deceased in the building before the fire was declared under control at 1:15 a.m. after the fire was extinguished.

Residents on the second floor told firefighters they were awoken by smoke detectors and they were able to escape the building. The two men who died were located on the first floor.

No other injuries were reported from this blaze.

The incident is being investigated by the MABAS Division 15 investigation team, Dwight Police, Livingston County Coroner’s office and the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
