Pontiac’s Thornton’s gas station experienced a hold-up followed by a 911 call from an employee early March 8.
According to a press release from the Pontiac Police, a white male subject wearing a hood pulled down over his face requested money from the cashier. The subject held his hand in his sweatshirt implying he was armed. The cashier provided him over $400 from the register and he took a bottle of liquor as he exited the store.
Police said the subject was described as being between the ages of 30 and 35, about 5’10” with a slim build and a long, dark goatee and beard. He wore black and white tennis shoes at the time of the robbery.
The area was searched by the Pontiac Police, Livingston County Sheriff’s Police and Illinois State Police but they were unsuccessful in locating the subject.
Pontiac Police also noted the young cashier’s ability to remain calm was noteworthy, saying her demeanor may very well have prevented the encounter from escalating into a more violent situation.
This offense could potentially carry charges of a Class X Felony for armed robbery or a Class 1 Felony for aggravated robbery.
