Corn Growers hear from congressman, state rep

The Livingston County Corn Growers held its annual meeting Monday morning and got updates from Congressman Adam Kinzinger and State Representative Tom Bennett.

Kinzinger talked about the importance of corn in Illinois and worldwide.

“Obviously corn is a huge part of the Illinois economy. Corn Growers are really active in terms of promoting agriculture. I just met with them in DC, in fact, last week. So just to come here and stress not only what’s going on in Washington is important, but also to remind people how important their activism is, because we’re fighting every day in Washington DC against people who are, in some cases, not sympathetic to corn,” Kinzinger said.

Bennett echoed Kinzinger’s sentiments.

“Agriculture, of course, is a big part of our district and the entire State of Illinois. Corn Growers, Farm Bureau – there are just a lot of groups that involve agriculture in one form or another and there’s a number of products here we’re trying to sell to market, both within the country and outside as well. This is one thing we really do well in Illinois Agriculture and of course when you support all the activities and policies that support agriculture to help it grow, that’s really the key to our success,” Bennett said.
