Prairie Central’s state champion wrestlers Drew Hosleton and Brandon Hoselton headline the first all-Illini Prairie Conference wrestling team.The brother tandem were unanimous choices to the first team. Hawks teammate Cade Kearns who also qualified for state made all-conference. Senior Liam Melvin of Pontiac made first team all-IPC.
Pontiac’s Frank Smith made second team along with state-qualifiers Logan Deacetis and Alex Steidinger of Prairie Central. Pontiac and Prairie Central both had three wrestlers made honorable mention. From PTHS; Johnathan Romero, Giovani Romero and Tyler Lanning. From Prairie Central; Marcus Jackson, Garrett Johnson and Matt Kerns made honorable mention.
The Loyola Ramblers are hopping on the plane on Wednesday to head to San Antonio for the Final Four. Vegas still has the Cinderella Ramblers as the underdog with Villanova the favorite among the four finalists. Loyola plays Michigan in the semifinals on Saturday.
Illinois had landed a big man for next season. 6-foot-9 Austria native Giorgi Bezhanisvilli who comes from a prep school in New jersey. Coach Brad Underwood has three more scholarships available for next season.
Bradley University has extended the contract of men’s basketball coach Brian Wardle five years through 2023. The 38-year-old Wardle has been in Peoria for three seasons, leading the Braves to a 20-13 record in the past season. Bradley was the last team to defeat Final Four entry Loyola in a two-point win on January 31st.

The National Football League has officially simplified its much-vilified catch rule. To be ruled a catch, a receiver must have control, two feet or another body part down and a football move such as a third step or a lunge with the ball.
The National Hockey League has changed how it handles goalie interference challenges. A former referee in the NHL situation room in Toronto will now make the final ruling after consulting video and the on-ice referees. The change takes effect tomorrow.
