DWIGHT – One Dwight man says this is the second time he’s lost everything. Daniel Housman first lost his trailer in the Dwight tornado of 2010 and again in a house fire last week.
Housman says the smell of smoke woke him up in middle of the night. After waking his fiancee and stepson, he grabbed his keys and the family escaped down the stairs just before the flames took over the staircase.
“To be honest with you I feel truly blessed that we made it out of that apartment,” Housman said. “In one of the pictures on facebook you can see my bedroom window. And you can see the bedroom window completely surrounded by fire, but the bedroom isn’t on fire. I show that picture to people and I say ‘You wanna see the definition of lucky?”
The family did lose their dog to the flames.
Housman says his dad lives nearby and his brother lives in Pontiac.
Since the fire Houseman has received many donations from the community. Although, his two downstairs neighbors died in the fire.
“Everybody’s wanting to give us things but we don’t have a place to put it. Everything’s just up in the air right now. I’m going to be fine, but he had three young children that don’t have a daddy now.”
If you would like help the Housman family, contact the Dwight Police department at 815- 584-3132.
